Bad Ischl

During the period in which Franz Josef I made this spa resort his summer home, Bad Ischl became a popular retreat for Europe's aristocracy of the time. Nowadays you can see many references to the town's heyday with grand architecture including Kaiservilla - Franz Josef's summer residence.

Hallstadt

One of Europe's oldest towns, Hallstatt's history dates back 4500 years. Many relics of the early Iron sage, including a preserved 3000 year old salt miner, were unearthed in the nearby salt mine (salzbergwerk).

Other attractions in this small town in the Salzkammergut region include several museums and the 15th century Pfarrkirche and its adjoining Beinhaus containing rows of neatly arranged human bones.
