Avebury

This small village in north Wiltshire is best known for the stone circle that runs through part of the village centre. Like Stonehenge, Avebury can get very busy at Summer Solstice.

Coming & going

Avebury has good bus connections with several bus routes connecting the village with Salisbury and Swindon.

 

The most useful bus routes are Wilts & Dorset buses 5 and 6 that stop here en route between Salisbury and Swindon. Other buses include Stagecoach bus 49 that stops here en route between Swindon and Trowbridge and Thamesdown buses 48A and 49A that come here from Marlborough.

Avebury Alexander Keiller Museum

This museum has two galleries with exhibits relating the Avebury's stone circle. This includes an audio-visual display in the Barn Gallery.

Stone Circle

This important megalithic monument consists of a stone circle enclosed by a ditch and an avenue of stones. Although the stones are smaller than Stonehenge, the monument is older and covers a larger area encompassing part of the village.
