Ávila
This spectacular medieval walled city is located less than two hours from Madrid making it a popular destination for day-trippers from the capital.
Apart from the walls and the town itself, Ávila's sights include the cathedral and Basílica de San Vicente and El Monasterio de Santo Tomás where Fray Tomás de Torquemada (the bad guy from the Spanish Inquistion) is believed to be buried.
