The most visited country in the United Kingdom is a hugely popular destination among backpackers. The English language makes England a popular first stop on itineraries of first-time travellers and the availability of working holiday visas makes it a great base for travellers on an extended working holiday.
London is by far the most popular destination in England, followed by destinations in the south west of England such as Bath, Salisbury and Cornwall. Also popular are small historic cities within daytripping distance from London such as Canterbury, Cambridge, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon.
However England has much more to offer including scores of quaint villages and historic towns as well as seldom-visited, yet vibrant, cities with great nightlife such as Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
