Castilla La Mancha
Most travellers shoot through the region south of Madrid enroute between Madrid and Andalucía or Valencia, however there are a few cities in the region which warrant a stop over.
Cuenca
This interesting medieval town is worth visiting for the unique architectural style of its casas colgadas (hanging houses) which hang over the river. Visit the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español if you want to see inside one of these houses.
Other attractions include Museo de Cuenca and Museo Diocesano and the town's cathedral.

Toledo
Often referred to as the Imperial City, Toledo is a beautiful medieval city just a few hours from Madrid. Toledo has a wealth of attractions including the Alcázar, the cathedral, museums, monuments and the city walls.
Toledo was home to El Greco and several museums and churches feature his paintings including the Iglesia de San Tomé and the Casa Museo de El Greco.
Although Toledo can often appear a touristy city full of day-trippers from Madrid, an overnight stay is a good way to experience the city in all it's glory after the day-trippers have returned to Madrid.
