Although Grindelwald is one of the most touristy towns in Switzerland, it is less popular with backpackers than Interlaken and many travellers prefer the ambience of Grindelwald.
This is an excellent base if you enjoy the outdoors and there are plenty of hiking trails to choose from.

To get to Grindelwald, you must first change trains at Interlaken's Ostbahnhof for the Jungfraubahn (tel (033) 828 71 11). This train takes around 40 minutes and costs SFR 10.20. Eurail aren't valid on the Jungfraubahn although the Eurail pass does entitle you to a 25% discount.
