Harrogate has long been the more upscale of Yorkshire’s bigger towns and cities. The neighbouring town of Knaresborough is only 5km from the centre of Harrogate and is a quainter alternative with its own charm and unique attractions.

National Express (tel 0870 580 8080) coaches run buses from Harrogate to Leeds.
Harrogate & District bus 36 runs frequent services connecting Harrogate with Ripon and Leeds with services at least once every 20 minutes on weekdays and every half hour on Sundays.
The Day Gold ticket is good for one day unlimited travel on Harrogate & District buses in Harrogate and Knaresborough as well as route 36 to Leeds. It costs £6.20.
An Explorer ticket costs £6 and is valid for one day of unlimited travel on all Harrogate and District buses and on Arriva buses between Ripon and Darlington.
Northern trains connect Harrogate and Knaresborough and also go to Leeds and York and National Express East Coast trains run between Harrogate and Leeds.
Local buses in the Harrogate and Knaresborough area are run by Harrogate & District. Buses 56, 57, 58, 101 and 102 run between Harrogate and Knaresborough. An all day ticket for travel in the central area of Harrogate and Knareborough costs £6.20.
The Royal Baths were built over a sulpher well and the museum depicts the history of the spa and also has a programme of changing exhibits.
