This beautiful city is home to Germany's oldest university and has a large student population. The hopping bars in the old town come to life each night as both local students and travellers make the town buzz as they embark on a serious pub crawl. Unfortunately, Heidelberg is no longer a quiet backwater - the city's castle and medieval old town attract three million tourists a year.
