This busy town is a popular gateway to the Lake District. It is a nice town with good transport connections but it can become crowded on weekends.

National Express and Stagecoach run buses and coaches linking Kendal with the Lake District and cities like Lancaster, Carlisle and Manchester. Stagecoaches routes include the useful bus 106 that goes to Penrith and the 555 to Lancaster and Keswick.
The Cumbria Goldrider is a good value pass that costs £23.50 and gives you seven days unlimited travel on Stagecoach buses throughout Cumbria.
First TransPennine Express run trains to Lancaster and Manchester (Piccadilly) every two hours. Change at Oxenholme for trains to Carlisle and Glasgow.
Stagecoach run local bus services in Kendal. All buses run a circular route around the town centre and buses 42, 43 and 43A run between the town centre and the train station.
A seven-day Megarider ticket costs £6.75. This ticket gives you unlimited travel on Stagecoach buses in the Kendal area.
