North York Moors National Park

The northern part of North Yorkshire doesn’t have the spectacular landscape you find in Snowdonia or the Lake District, but the North York Moors is still a lovely area that is home to several charming small towns and a unique weather-beaten landscape that is covered in heather between early July and mid August.

Coming & going & local transport

The North York Moors is most easily accessible from Helmsley, Middlesbrough, Pickering, Scarborough and Whitby and it has good public transport within the park including the historic North York Moors Railway.

Moorbus operates a good bus network connecting most towns in the park between April and October.

Arriva supplements Moorsbus services in the northern area of the park and Yorkshire Coastliner connects the principal towns in the park with Leeds, Whitby and York.
