Pevensey

Pevensey's history dates to the 4th century when a Roman fort was built here, and on 28 September 1066 William the Conquerer landed here before marching to take part in the Battle of Hastings. Shortly afterwards, Robert de Mortain (William's half brother) built Pevensey Castle on the grounds of the original Roman fort.
