New Lanark
New Lanark was established in 1785 by industrialist Robert Owen as a company town to house workers for his cotton mill. It is similar to other Industrial Revolution-era World Heritage Sites such as Ironbridge (Shropshire) and Saltaire (West Yorkshire) and it is now run as a living community with the restored 18th century cotton mill plus a visitor centre with displays depicting life in New Lanark during the Industrial Revolution.
