AIR
Dublin Airport (website www.aer-rianta.ie) is 11km north of the city centre. Airlink buses (€5) run between the airport and Busáras, alternatively you can save your cash by taking the local bus 41, 41B, 41C (€1.75).
The airport has frequent flights throught Europe and the world. Although it is a busy airport, it is also small enough to be easily manageable, and is the base for several of Europe's fastest growing airlines including Aer Lingus and Ryanair with the usual facilities including fast food joints and a pub.
BUS
Bus Éirrean (website www.buseireann.ie), Eurolines (website www.eurolines.ie) and Ulsterbus (website www.ulsterbus.co.uk) operate from Dublin's main bus station known as Busáras. This bus terminal is centrally located near Connolly Station.
TRAIN
Iarnród Éireann (website www.irishrail.ie) operates trains to most major destinations in Ireland with departures from Dublin's two main train stations, Connolly and Heuston.
Connolly Station is the more centrally located of the two and handles trains to Belfast and Bus erry in Northern Ireland as well as destinations in the north of the Republic such as Sligo.
Other routes including Dublin to Cork, Galway, Killarney, Waterford and Wexford operate out of Heuston station. Heuston station is located to the west of the centre near the Guinness Brewery.
There are frequent bus connections between the two stations.
FERRY
Dublin has two ferry ports. Sealink Ferries arrive at Dún Laoghaire which is easily accessible DART trains from Connolly Station. B&I Ferries leave from Dublin Harbour which is connected to central Dublin by buses 53 and 53A.
HITCHHIKING
Ireland is one of the world's best countries to hitch in, however a lot of other people know this which means there is often a lot of competition on the roads.
If you're heading north to Belfast, walk north along O'Connell Street to Bus rumcondra Road and wait there. If you don't fancy the 4km walk, take the airport bus and ask to be dropped off before the airport entrance.
Walk along Thomas Street, past the Guinness Brewery, and try your luck on Emmet Road for lifts to Cork, Killarney, Limerick or Waterford.
BUG Ride (website http://europe.bugride.com) is our own web-based ride sharing service, it allows travellers to both offer lifts and search for rides throughout Europe. This is a free service which links travellers to drivers you contact the driver by email when you have found the ride you want.
