EdinburghLocal TransportEdinburgh's transport network is made up of buses operated by First Edinburgh (tel (08708) 727 271; website www.firstgroup.com) and Lothian Buses (tel (0131) 555 6363; website www.lothianbuses.co.uk) although Lothian Buses offer the most extensive route network. Fares range from 80p to £1 per trip. A one-week RideCard costs £12 and gives you unlimited transport on Lothian Buses. Lothian Buses also sell a CitySingle ticket, which is a carnet of 20 tickets for £18. There are also suburban trains that run every 30 minutes during the day and hourly during the evening and on weekends. This is comprised of long distance trains passing through the city and stopping at local stations so it's not a real suburban rail system like Glasgow's and buses are generally a cheaper and more useful transport option for most backpackers. |
