LjubljanaComing & GoingAIRLjubljana's Brnik Airport (tel (04) 20 61 000; website www.lju-airport.si) is about 20 minutes north of the city although many locals hop across to Italy and fly from Trieste where airfares are sometimes cheaper. The Adria airport minibus has regular departures from the bus and train station for Brnik Airport, 25km north of the city centre. There are no direct buses to Ljubljana from Trieste's Ronchi dei Legionari Airport (tel +39 481 773224; website www.aeroporto.fvg.it) however local buses run frequently from the airport to Monfalcone and Trieste. Bus 10 runs frequently to Monfalcone train station and costs €0.87 and bus 51 continues to Trieste and costs €2.75. You can get a train to Slovenia from either Monfalcone or Trieste station. BUS & TRAINThe train and bus station is located just to the north of the centre, about a 5-10 minute walk from the old town. It's a handy place since the bus and train station are right next to each other. The station has all the usual facilities such as luggage storage, tourist office, as well as English speaking staff. HITCHHIKINGSlovenia is quite a good country to hitch in and there are several good spots for hitching a ride out of Ljubljana. If you're heading to Italy or Croatia's Istrian peninsula take bus 6 to Dolgi Most. Take bus 1 to Vižmarje if you want to hitch a ride northbound to Bled or Salzburg. If you're heading to Zagreb, take bus 3 to Rudnik. Bus 6 will take you to a good hitch-hiking spot at Crnuce for lifts to Maribor and Vienna. BUG Ride (website http://europe.bugride.com) is our own web-based ride sharing service, it allows travellers to both offer lifts and search for rides throughout Europe. This is a free service which links travellers to drivers - you contact the driver by email when you have found the ride you want. |
