CITY CENTRE
Akershus Fortress and Castle
Dating from 1299, this spectacular castle features dominates the Kvadraturen neighbourhood just south of the city centre. During summer there are often concerts held in the fortress grounds and it also offers great views of central Oslo. The castle was renovated by Christian IV in the 17th century and has been used as a palace and also as a prision during WWII.

Astrup Fearnley Museet for Moderne Kunst

Kunstindustrimuseet (Museum of Applied Art)
This museum displays applied art dating from the 7th century. Exhibits include metals, glass and furniture.

Munch-museet (Munch Museum)
The Munch Museum is one of Oslo's star attractions. The museum boasts a collection of thousands of Munch's works including around 1000 paintings, 4500 drawings and 18 000 prints. The most well-known works are always on display including his most famous painting - The Scream. The selection of his lesser-known artworks is changed regularly. A film on Evard Munch's art and life is screened every day at 11am, 1 pm and 3pm.

Museet for Samtidskunst (National Museum of Contemporary Art)
Norway's largest museum of modern art includes drawings, painting, sculpture and graphic art. The majority of the museum's collection are works from Norwegian artists.

Nasjonalgalleriet (The National Art Museum of Norway)
Norway's National Art Museum has a large collection of Norwegian and international art dating to 1945. There are two galleries of Edvard Munch's artwork including one of the four versions of his most famous work, The Scream.

Rådhus (City Hall)
Oslo's city hall is known for its murals and also for the main hall, which is the venue for the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony that takes place here each December.

BYGDØY
The peninsula is located a short bus or ferry ride from the centre of Oslo. Although mostly a residential neighbourhood, this suburb is also home to some of the city's best museums.
Frammuseet (The Polar Ship Fram)
The Fram Museum is dedicated to polar exploration. The museum's main attraction is the polar ship, Fram, which has sailed further north and further south than any other ship in the world, it has been used in expeditions to both the Artic and Antarctic.

Kon-Tiki Museum
This museum is home to the original raft that explorer Thor Heyerdahl sailed to Polynesia in 1947 as well as exhibits from Easter Island, Polynesia, Peru and the Galapagos.

Holmenkollen
This ski jump, about ½hour from the centre of Oslo, hosts ski jumping competitions every March and concerts in summer, but most people visit it for the fantastic view from the top. There's also a ski museum and a ski jump simulator at the site.
