Rome (Roma)

All roads lead to the eternal city, capital of the Roman Empire and the site of the Vatican City. Despite all its history, Rome is a city which lives for today with plenty of great caffès, bars and restaurants, lots of mopeds and its fair share of ancient ruins. There is an endless array of things to see including the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, the catacombs, the ancient Roman Forum, the Colosseum and the Pantheon.

Practical information

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

There are several tourist information centres in Rome including a few good privately-run info centres such as the helpful Enjoy Rome.

Tipping is not a big deal in Italy. In general you can just leave the small change in a caffè-bar, which is usually around €0.05. Taxi drivers don't expect a tip, however restaurants are a grey area. Fast food places and small family-run restaurants don't expect a tip and neither do large restaurants that include a service charge in the bill. However tipping may be expected in some upmarket restaurants, in which case you just leave a euro.
