The Happy Weekend Ticket is one of Europe's greatest bargains. For a total of only €39 (€37 if you buy the it online) up to five people can travel all weekend on local trains. This ticket is valid on second class only. It is not valid on high speed or express trains so you'll have to change trains several times if you want to cover long distances.
Länder-Tickets gives up to five people travelling together unlimited travel on local trains in your choice of several German states.
They are valid from 9am till 3am the following day from Monday to Friday, and they are also valid on weekends in most states. If the following day is a bank holiday, then it is valid from 9am until midnight the following day.
These tickets are good for travel on local trains (Interregio-Express, Regional-Express, Regionalbahn and S-Bahn as well as the Verkehrsverbünde transport systems), however in some states you can also travel on IR and D trains for a supplement of €13.
This ticket is good for one day unlimited travel in Baden-Württemberg on all local trains (Interregio-Express, Regional-Express, Regionalbahn, S-Bahn) and the entire transport system of the Verkehrsverbünde Baden-Württemberg. It is valid everyday (including weekends) from 9am-3am the following day.

If you will be spending most of your time in Germany, a German Rail Pass may be just the ticket. These passes work in much the same way as the Eurail Flexipass, giving you 5, 10 or 15 days of travel within a one month period.
