Train travel in Denmark

Denmark's train network is modern and efficent with frequent trains between the major cities.

Long distance trains in Denmark are divided between the impressive Intercity (IC) and the slower InterRegional (IR) services. Seat reservations are compulsory on intercity services, otherwise both types of train cost the same.

If you're buying individual tickets, try to plan long journeys on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday when tickets are around 20% cheaper.

Most trains in Denmark are operated by DSB but there are a few minor routes served by small private railway companies. Both Eurail and InterRail passes are valid on DSB rail services.
