Train Travel in FinlandFinnish trains are operated by Valtion Rautatiet (VR) (website www.vr.fi) and are high-tech, clean and reliable just like most other things in Finland. Connections are especially good between Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, while the international service between Helsinki and St Petersburg is popular with budget travellers. Eurail and InterRail are valid in Finland. Single tickets are valid for 8 days and the journey must be made according to the route shown on the ticket. Return tickets are valid for a one-month period, however you only save around 5% over the cost of two single tickets. If a group of you are travelling together, ask about getting a special group price. If you're travelling in a group of 3 to 10 people you can get a 20% discount off the cost of your ticket. If there are 11 or more of you, you can save 25%. PendolinoThe new high-tech train service between Helsinki and Turku is called the Pendolino. The new high-speed trains operate four daily services in each direction and connect the two cities in around two hours. Rail PassesSCANRAIL PASSAn excellent value pass considering that it covers unlimited rail travel in Europe's (and the world's) most expensive countries. Valid in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

EURAIL FINLAND PASSThe Eurail Finland Pass is a flexi pass that gives you three, five or 10 days unlimited train travel in Finland within a one month period.
Please not that Eurail passes cannot be sold to European residents. If you live in Europe you should order the following Interrail One Country pass. INTERRAIL ONE COUNTRY PASS - FINLANDEuropean residents are eligible to buy the Finland Interrail One Country pass, which is a flexi pass that gives you three to eight days of unlimited train travel in Finland within a one month period.

Supplements & Sleeping Berth TicketsAlthough the major rail passes are valid in Finland, you still have to pay supplements on certain trains. High-season is 18-23 December in the south-north direction and 26-27 December and 1-3 January in the direction north-south. Trains to RussiaFinland is considered by many to be the gateway to the east with frequent ferry departures to Estonia and trains to Russia. The Russian train "Tolstoi" runs to Moscow, while both the Russian train "Repin" and the Finnish train "Sibelius" operate services to St Petersburg.
