Train travel in Norway

Norway is home to several of Europe's most scenic railway lines including the popular Bergen-Oslo line and the Flåm Railway.

Rail tickets in Norway allow up to two months to complete your journey although you must stick to your route. It can be a good idea to break your route and discover a different part of Norway before continuing your journey.

On route where it is compulsory to make a seat reservation (NOK20) you will need to pick up your reserved ticket by the last weekday before your departure. This can be a real bummer if you're looking forward to spontaneous travel on your railpass since you may need to plan your journey several days in advance. If you make a last minute decision to take a train or are otherwise unable to make a seat reservation the conductor may be able to find you a seat, although you may have to stand (or stay in the bar) if the train is full.

Like elsewhere in Scandinavia, Norway is a very expensive country. However Norway's rail network offers a number of special passes to but the cost of travelling. Along with Eurail and InterRail passes, Norway's NSB rail network offers the following discounts and travel passes:

Eurail Norway Pass

The Eurail Norway Pass is a flexi pass that gives you three to eight ways of unlimited train travel in Norway within a one month period.

Please not that Eurail passes cannot be sold to European residents. If you live in Europe you should order the following InterRail One Country pass.

InterRail One Country Pass – Norway

European residents are eligible to buy the Norway InterRail One Country pass, which is a flexi pass that gives you three to eight days of unlimited train travel in Norway within a one month period.

Please note that Interrail passes can only be sold to European residents. You should order the Eurail Norway Pass if you live outside Europe.
