Train Travel in SloveniaSlovenske Zeleznice (website www.slo-zeleznice.si) operates Slovenia's rail network which has extensive domestic services and international routes connecting Slovenia with Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, Milan, Trieste, Venice, Rijeka and Zagreb. Although Slovenia's train service is slow, it is efficient, covering most towns and cities in the country. Train fares are good value by Europeans standards with a 100km journey costing around 700SIT. If you buy your ticket on board the train you have to pay a supplement of 180SIT. If you're having a hard time trying to figure out the timetables at the station bear in mind that departures are listed on the yellow timetable marked Odhad or Odhodi Vlakov and arrivals are listed on the white timetable marked Prihod or Prihodi Vlakov. Remember the following Slovene words if you're still having trouble trying to decipher the timetable: peron (platform), sedez (seat) and smer (direction). Both the Eurail and the Interrail pass are valid in Slovenia. There is also an Interrail One Country pass for travel in Slovenia. INTERRAIL ONE COUNTRY PASS - SLOVENIAEuropean residents are eligible to buy the Slovenia Interrail One Country pass, which is a flexi pass that gives you three to eight days of unlimited train travel in the Slovenia within a one month period.
